Benefits of Yoga
Dana Lincoln
People often come to yoga for the physical benefits of the practice.  It’s true, yoga will bring about a strong lean physical body, but equally important is the connection the individual starts to make with the deeper parts of themselves and how that begins to feel.  Yoga means “Union”.  Mind, Body and Spirit unite to create a peaceful state of existence which is what is intended as our natural state of being.  As we notice the breath and where it gets stuck, we notice the tensions of the body and how that can relate to our mind and our emotions.  With practice and intent, we start to use our breath to unwind the tensions in all the areas of our lives. We begin to relate back into those parts of ourselves where we detach and create holding patterns. Holding patterns happen as a result of traumas.  Whether these traumas are physical, mental, emotional or just the effects of aging and gravity itself, as they begin to let go we become less victimized by them. Our creative centers become alive and vital again. We start to make changes not by forcing but just by noticing.  Yoga is not a religion and can be practiced by all beliefs and belief systems. For many, physical changes through yoga practice, is what will allow the reactive mind to let go and the spirit to be uncovered.  Keep open to all possibilities so you can benefit in all areas of your life.

When it’s time to let go, and we begin to practice, we begin to move better.  As we move better, we feel better.  As we feel better we become more patient with ourselves and those around us.  As we treat others better, they begin to feel better they treat others better and it goes on and on and on, until a healing takes place all around us.   True healing is in the way we treat ourselves and those around us.  The world needs more yogis’ so breathe, change happens when we begin to notice, the breath is the key.

Namaste.
